Anglian helps establish ISL franchise in North East India

01 July 2014

SLFC-NEUFC 600x300Back in 2012, and against the advice of many people, Anglian invested in Shillong Lajong FC. We did this because we saw the talent and passion for the sport both amongst the players as well as the fans who would come out to support their local teams in huge numbers.

We helped the club streamline operations and develop smart strategies, both on as well as off the field, which led them to their best ever finishes in the 2012-13 and then again in the 2013-14 I-League seasons.

When the newly-formed Indian Super League came into existence, we were confident that it was simply a matter of time before others would see in the North East what we had seen some years back. Sure enough, famed actor John Abraham, one of our partners in the Guwahati-based ISL franchise – NorthEast United FC – said so in his club naming speech “I always had a fascination for football and North East. When ISL process started, we decided to have the team Guwahati or else we would have stayed away. By naming the team after the entire region, we want to project the eight states as a force to reckon with in Indian football”
